Our Princeton, Louisiana refinery produces a premium line of Naphthenic Base and Process Oils in addition to specialty products such as refrigeration oils, shock absorber oils and electrical insulation oils. Considered our flagship refinery, Princeton provides both truck and rail car service throughout the country.
Acquired in 2001, Calumet's Shreveport, Louisiana facility is a complete specialty refinery. Shreveport is successful in its ability to produce paraffinic base oils and paraffin waxes. Shreveport also produces both Naphthenic and Paraffinic Bright Stocks.
A wide range of aliphatic solvents are produced at our Cotton Valley, Louisiana refinery. The product range includes hydrotreated low aromatic solvents and low vapor pressure solvents as well as conventionally refined products. These specialty solvents find applications in a wide variety of markets including paints and coatings, inks, extraction and mining. Synergies abound as Calumet owns and operates all active refining assets in Northwest Louisiana.
In January of 2008, Calumet acquired Penreco, a former joint venture of M.E. Zuckermann & Co. and ConocoPhillips. Penreco is a diverse manufacturer of FDA/USP white mineral oils, specialty aliphatic solvents, petrolatums, hydrocarbon gels and natural sulfonates. In addition, Penreco offers a line of compounded and specialty products such as cable fillers, refrigeration oils and compressor lubricants. With a rich history of refining specialty hydrocarbons, Penreco brings a unique diversity to the Calumet family of products as well as expanding the geographic reach of Calumet into Pennsylvania and Texas. The brands incorporated in this acquisition include Penreco, Magiesol, Conosol, Drakeol and Versagel/Synergel.
On September 30, 2011, we completed the acquisition of the Superior Refinery and associated operating assets of Murphy Oil Corporation. The Superior refinery, with crude oil throughput capacity of approximately 45,000 bpd, produces gasoline, diesel, asphalt, heavy fuel oils and specialty petroleum products. These products are primarily marketed in the Upper Midwest region of the U.S., on the Great Lakes and in Canada. We believe the Superior acquisition provides greater scale, geographic diversity and development potential to our refining business, increasing our current total refining throughput capacity by 50% to 135,000 bpd.
On January 3, 2012, we completed an acquisition of an aviation and refrigerant synthetic lubricants business from Hercules Incorporated, a subsidiary of Ashland. The acquisition includes a manufacturing facility located in Louisiana, Missouri producing specialty synthetic esters.
On January 6, 2012, we completed the acquisition of all the outstanding membership interests of TruSouth Oil, LLC, a specialty petroleum packaging and distribution company and related party, located in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Our Burnham terminal contains a manufacturing and bulk storage facility with the capacity to hold over six million gallons as a terminal for tank truck delivery throughout the upper Midwest. The remainder of the United States is served by railcar, and international transportation is by ship.
