Oil Refinery: An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas.

Calumet Montana Refining's primary processing units include:

  • Crude Unit
o    Removes contaminates from the crude oil such as water, sediment and water soluble salt.

o    Separates the crude oil into fractions for further processing.

  • Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit
o    Cracks longer chain hydrocarbons into gasoline and other shorter chain hydrocarbons by contacting the Gas Oil with extremely hot catalyst. The silica and alumina catalyst is zeolite based and is at 1250ºF to 1350ºF.

o    Separates the cracked hydrocarbon into fractions for further processing.
