Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. is a leading independent refiner of high-quality specialty hydrocarbon products and fuel products in North America. The company operates 11 facilities in seven states with an aggregate production capacity of nearly 160,000 barrels per day. Calumet’s lubricating oils, solvents, waxes, high-purity white oils, asphalts, and fuels are used to develop some of the world’s best and most trusted brands. With origins that date back to 1916, Calumet has experienced a rich history and proudly delivered the highest quality products and services for over a century.
  • 1919Calumet's Beginning

    Calumet Refining Company officially formed.

  • 1953Louisiana Refinery

    Princeton, LA refinery constructed.

  • 1956Burnham

    Burnham becomes strategic terminal for distribution.

  • 1990Move to Indianapolis

    Calumet’s corporate headquarters moved to Indianapolis.


    F.W. Grube named CEO.

  • 1995Cotton Valley

    Calumet purchases Kerr-McGee Corp. refinery in Cotton Valley, LA

  • 2000Pennzoil Refineries

    Calumet purchased the Pennzoil refineries in Rouseville, PA, which also included part ownership in Bareco Wax.

  • 2001Shreveport

    Calumet purchased the Pennzoil refinery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Calumet Shreveport Refining is responsible for the production of specialty lubricating oils and waxes, as well as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

  • 2006NASDAQ

    Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. offered $141 million in common units through its Initial Public Offering and was listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol CLMT.

  • 2008Penreco

    Calumet acquired Penreco and all associated assets from ConocoPhillips and M.E. Zuckerman & Co. This included two production facilities: one in Karns City, Pennsylvania and one in Dickinson, Texas. Calumet Penreco, LLC is responsible for the production of USP white oils, USP petrolatums, solvents, gelled hydrocarbons, cable fillers, and natural petroleum sulfonates.

  • 2011Acquired Superior Refining

    Calumet purchased the Superior, Wisconsin refinery from the Murphy Oil Corporation.

  • 2012A Year of Many Acquisitions

    Calumet purchased Montana Refining Company, Inc., in Great Falls, MT, from Connacher Oil and Gas Limited. Calumet Montana Refining produces gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, as well as asphalt products.


    Calumet acquired Royal Purple, LLC, a leading producer of high-quality lubricating oils and specialty products.


    Calumet acquired TruSouth Oil, LLC, a specialty petroleum packaging and distribution facility in Shreveport, LA. This company became Calumet Packaging.


    Calumet purchased a Louisiana, Missouri polyol Esters business from Ashland. Calumet Louisiana Synthetics is one of the leading producers of polyol ester-based synthetic lubricants in the region.

  • 2013Growth Continues

    Calumet purchased the San Antonio refinery and associated assets from NuStar Energy, L.P.


    In a joint venture with MDU Resources, Inc., Calumet broke ground on Dakota Prairie Refining, LLC in Dickinson, North Dakota. This is the first greenfield oil refinery built in the United States since 1976.


    Calumet Louisiana Synthetics broke ground on a capital improvement project that will add 25,000 feet to the facility and increase production capacity.


    Calumet acquires Bel-Ray Company, Inc. in Farmingdale, NJ.

  • 2014Fortune 500

    Calumet acquired Anchor Drilling Fluids USA, Inc. in Tulsa, OK.


    Calumet was included on the Fortune 500 list for the first time.


    Calumet acquired Specialty Oil Field Solutions in Houston, TX.

  • 2015Bill Grube Promoted

    Bill Grube promoted to Executive Vice Chairman.


    Bill Hatch named Interim CEO.

    Calumet sells its interest in Dakota Prairie Refining, LLC (Dickinson, ND)
